WHITE LINE DISEASE
Any horse with white line disease should be treated
by your hoof care specialist.
Your hoof care specialist should remove as much of the damaged hoof
as possible. HoofMate™
should be applied to a properly cleaned frog and hoof at least twice
daily. Super BIO-ZIN®
should be fed to the horse in order to grow out a new hoof as soon
as possible. Super BIO-ZIN®
contains high levels of biotin as well as a superior balance of
methionine, L-lysine, vitamins and minerals, all of which are essential
in growing out the hoof as quickly as possible. Biotin alone is
not the answer, but when fed in conjunction with a balanced level
of above ingredients, will produce a much stronger hoof wall.
THRUSH
Thrush is a disease condition of the frog
in the foot. HoofMate™
should be applied to a properly cleaned frog and hoof at least twice
daily. The condition will be less apt to become serious in a horse
that is maintained on a good exercise and feeding program that includes
BIO-ZIN®.
LAMINITIS (FOUNDER)
In the case of a horse with laminitis,
where the hoof wall is flaking off in layers, the first thing to
do is reduce the activity level of the horse as well as reduce the
feed intake. The feed should be high in fiber and low in energy.
Super BIO-ZIN®
should be fed for fast regenerative hoof growth. A veterinarian
may prescribe a support for the hoof.
PERSISTENT ABSCESS
Antibiotics are sometimes required to
treat severe cases of abscess. Consult your hoof care specialist
to determine the severity of the abscess. In order to maintain a
strong, healthy, growing hoof wall, Super
BIO-ZIN® should be fed on a regular basis.
SOLE PUNCTURE
A puncture to the sole may need to be
treated by your hoof care specialist. A strong, healthy hoof will
heal more readily from the wound. Therefore, Super
BIO-ZIN® should be fed to strengthen the hoof wall
to support and protect the injured sole.
CLUB FOOT / WEAK, CRUMBLY HOOVES
There are two basic club foot situations.
Club foot can be improved significantly in colts under 6 months
of age by the use of Super BIO-ZIN®
which provides the colt with adequate levels of lysine in a easily
metabolized form of copper. A second common cause of club foot is
that some halter babies are pushed too hard, too fast, and fed too
much protein. Adjust the feeding program and again provide adequate
hoof building nutrients with Super
BIO-ZIN®, which should be fed until the hooves
are back in good condition. Maintenance level BIO-ZIN®
should then be fed to help maintain strong, healthy hoof growth.
